What is Watch?

Watch is an e-paper watch with open source hardware and software. You can wear the PCB watch body directly, or you can use 3D printing equipment to print the case and strap for personal customization.

This is not only a unique timepiece, but also a wearable development platform with reserved IO ports, allowing users to connect various sensors, such as heart rate and blood oxygen sensors.

Watch's e-paper display provides clearly visible images in bright sunlight and does not require power between updates. The display has a pixel of 200x200 and displays in monochrome.

Watch supports WiFi and Bluetooth LE connections, and can connect to Internet APIs (such as weather, news, traffic, maps, Spotify, etc.) and devices that support Bluetooth LE.

Considering the needs of makers/hackers/tinkerers, we chose ESP32 because of its large community and support for various development options (Arduino, Micropython, ESP-IDF, Zephyr-RTOS, etc.)

Battery life

Watch wakes up every 60 seconds, checks the accelerometer, real-time clock, and updates the electronic paper display screen with the latest information. Some watch faces also turn on WiFi to get weather data..

The battery life of the Watch is 5-7 days when only keeping time, and 2-3 days when acquiring data over WiFi. These numbers can be extended with further optimization (e.g. sleeping during non-working hours, waking only on motion/tilt, etc.)
